This following copycat which is based on a stock image was entered into the MENA Crystal Awards in an unethical attempt at winning. The attempt is documented in Communicate January 2007 issue N. 24. Page: 46.

Featured in Communicate magazine (in association with Advertising Age), January 2007 issue N. 24. Page:46. the article is showcasing the MENA Crystal awards entries. DDB Jordan has nerves to enter this work into a regional award.

A magazine which is distributed free of charge and relays solely on advertising revenue for survival; should invest in an original cover design.

To avoid such embarrassments why not use the good relations built over the years with the advertising community – make a cover design competition (based on the theme of the next issue) which could be sponsored /supported by the IAA Kuwait chapter; the winner would get free advertising space – perhaps a DPS in return for a professionally designed cover page and some bragging rights sounds like a win-win situation. I am confident both agencies and freelancers would participate just a thought.

NB. Anyone remember the Bazaar cover design which was scanned directly from an HP ad

A copycat is a person that mimics or repeats the behavior of another. The term is often derogatory, suggesting a lack of originality. The expression may derive from kittens that learned by imitating the behaviors of their mothers. – Wikipedia.
